Hawaii Island police have arrested a Puna woman in connection with the theft of a pickup truck with a handgun inside.

Hawaii Island police have arrested a Puna woman in connection with the theft of a pickup truck with a handgun inside.

On July 9, a 51-year-old Kailua-Kona man reported that his truck had been stolen from the parking lot of a supermarket on Palani Road in Kailua-Kona. A registered, unloaded handgun in a case was reportedly in the stolen truck, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

During the investigation, police recovered the truck and handgun and identified a suspect, 31-year-old Ashley Faustina of Pahoa, police said.

Faustina was arrested Thursday (July 23) in Hilo and charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, first-degree theft and violating terms of release on bail, police said Her bail was set at $60,000 for the property crimes. She is being held at Hawaii Community Correctional Center.
